Course Description
Genesis Rabbah does not begin the way we expect (with a passage from Genesis) but instead opens with a passage from Proverbs. Why and how does this early midrash continually use passages from books of the Tanach other than Genesis? How and when can we use this style of midrash – called ‘petihah’ – in our own teachings and interpretations, so that this early Rabbinic style of commentary can come alive in our contemporary words?
