Jewish Theology Live (Q2 ~ 2023)

March 1, 2023

About This Course

God is beyond human comprehension, but that has not stopped Jewish thinkers from attempting to describe God. The Jewish God is referred to with many names and euphemisms, though God’s scriptural names are traditionally only pronounced during religious activities. Belief in one God is one of Judaism’s defining characteristics. Nonetheless, some parts of the Torah seem less monotheistic than others. In addition, there are minor currents of thought within Judaism that play down the importance of belief in God.

This course will trace how humanity created the concept of God, and how that God is the answer to all of our thoughts, wants, and ideas from science to religion. From the very young to the very old the idea and concept of God evolves and grows just like we do.

Class is every Tuesday evening at 8 PM Eastern in the Zoom classroom available at this link.

Please replace the texts

This was a safe space to explore our personal views and feelings. Wish the readings were more substantive and better suited to rabbinical students., and that R. Raucher had added more of his own teaching.

loved this class

Provocative, thoughtful, and a safe space for spelunking! Rabbi Raucher allows for so much exploration of Jewish theology and therefore (and perhaps more importantly), our own. And as much as I loved the class it felt like we only scratched the surface. More please.

Beautiful Experience

Absolutely loved this class. Rabbi Raucher holds a very special and non judgmental space to explore the depths of Jewish theology. A deeply investigative journey into understanding the many expressions of God in Jewish texts and how our relationships to our personal interpretations can inform our beliefs, ideologies and practices. The class was a sacred space inspiring and allowing tranformation
