Talmud II

April 27, 2025

About This Course

Talmud (literally, “study”) is the generic term for the documents that comment and expand upon the Mishnah (“repeating”), the first work of rabbinic law, published around the year 200 CE by Rabbi Judah the Patriarch in the land of Israel.

As we saw in our first course, although Talmud is largely about law, it should not be confused with either code of law or with a commentary on the legal sections of the Torah. Rather the Talmud is an intergenerational text which offers insights into philosophy, ethics, prayer, theology, and logic.

In this course, we will continue to cover relevant texts which can guide us in our leadership within the contemporary Jewish community.
